Premier Salutes Life of Gerald Sheehy
Premier Rodney MacDonald expressed sadness today, June 2, at the passing of long-time MLA Dr. Gerald Sheehy. Dr. Sheehy died suddenly on June 1.
"Dr. Sheehy was a true gentleman," said Premier MacDonald. "His career as a public servant lasted more than 20 years, and for every day of that long career, the people of his community were foremost in his mind."
Dr. Sheehy entered public life in 1965 as a Middleton Town Councillor and Deputy Mayor. In 1970 he was elected MLA for Annapolis East, a post he held until 1988. During that time, Dr. Sheehy held several cabinet posts, including Minister of Health, Registrar General and Minister of Agriculture and Marketing.
"I send sincere condolences to Dr. Sheehy's children Kim, Terry and Grant and to all his family and friends," said Premier MacDonald. "Today Nova Scotians mourn the loss of a proud and dedicated Nova Scotian."
The flags at Province House are flying at half-mast in Dr. Sheehy's honour.
