Minister Receives First Report from Remediation Monitoring Oversight Board

A three-member board completed its first report monitoring the Department of Environment's performance as the primary regulator of the Sydney Tar Ponds and Coke Ovens Cleanup Project.

"I want to thank the board members for their hard work and I look forward to reviewing the report in full detail," said David Morse, Minister of Environment.

Mr. Morse will respond to the board after the report has been reviewed.

The Remediation Monitoring Oversight Board was announced in January 2007, when an environmental assessment approval was granted to the Sydney Tar Ponds Agency to move forward with the cleanup.

Sinclair Dewis, Edwin MacLellan and Colin Hines were appointed to the board in December 2007.
