New Crown Attorney in Sydney
Chuck Broderick has been appointed a Crown attorney in the Sydney office of the Public Prosecution Service. The appointment was announced today, April 8, by Martin Herschorn, director of Public Prosecutions.
"With his experience, Mr. Broderick will be a valuable addition to our team of Crown attorneys," said Mr. Herschorn.
A native of Glace Bay, Mr. Broderick is an experienced criminal trial lawyer. He graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1977 and articled in Sydney with Elizabeth Cusack. Mr. Broderick began his legal career with the law firm of Crosby Keliher in Glace Bay, later becoming a partner with that firm. In 1981, he became a sole practitioner. He practiced general law but criminal law was a particular focus.
Mr. Broderick has been involved in several high profile inquires relating to the criminal justice system. He has represented clients at the Elstrom Inquiry, the Marshall Inquiry, the Clayton Miller Inquiry and the Bailey Inquiry.
He also has expertise in Aboriginal law as the former solicitor for the Eskasoni Band Council.
Mr. Broderick is active in his community. He is the former chair of Glace Bay's Town Day Care Centre, the former chair of the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay and has been active for many years with the Boys and Girls Club.
