Minister Announces Recreation Foundation Funding
Nova Scotians who face barriers to participate in recreation programs will have more opportunities thanks to a new foundation supported by the province.
Pat Dunn, Minister of Health Promotion and Protection, announced today, March 11, a $50,000 contribution to Recreation for Accessible Leisure Lifestyles, or Recreation for ALL, a foundation created by Recreation Nova Scotia.
"This investment will allow the foundation to be established and contribute to building healthy communities and improving the quality of life for all Nova Scotians," said Mr. Dunn.
Recreation for ALL will help charities and municipalities offer recreational programs to people who face barriers to participation such as poverty, ability level, or geographic isolation. The foundation will also fund research on such barriers.
"Countless lives will be positively impacted by this foundation," said Brenda Robertson, president of Recreation Nova Scotia. "I express my heartfelt gratitude to both Minister Dunn and my colleagues at the Department of Health Promotion and Protection, who continue to keep the sport and recreation needs of Nova Scotians foremost on their agenda."
The Recreation for ALL Foundation will help by providing financial assistance to volunteers, groups and communities who are working to increase access to quality recreation programs and services in Nova Scotia. Funds will be available through improving access, education and research programs.
