Provincial Government Surpasses United Way Campaign Goal

Provincial government employees have generously donated to the United Way of Halifax Region.

Employee contributions through government-workplace campaigns surpassed $470,000 in 2008.

"This has been a very successful campaign," said Paul LaFleche, chair of the provincial campaign and deputy minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and Aquaculture. "Nova Scotia government employees have risen to the challenge and shown their commitment to making their communities healthier and safer for everyone."

The money raised will support the United Way's work, which includes funding programs and agencies that help young children and families thrive, reduce violence and build strong communities and volunteer organizations.

"I want to thank the many volunteers throughout government who contributed their time and energy to this campaign," said Mr. LaFleche. "They showed creativity and leadership in helping us surpass our goal."

Campaigns were managed by volunteers in each government department and agency. The departments of Agriculture and Fisheries and Aquaculture were the lead agency for the 2008 campaign.
