Summer Job Fair Supports Youth Retention in Province

Nova Scotia university students got an early start on their summer job search today, Feb. 10.

More than 1,000 university students and graduates showcased themselves to the 50 Nova Scotia employers that spoke about available job openings at the Halifax Career Fairs Summer Job Fair at the Cunard Centre in Halifax.

The fair is organized by Dalhousie, Mount Saint Vincent, and Saint Mary's universities and presented by the Department of Labour and Workforce Development.

"By engaging students and employers in Nova Scotia, we are helping to develop the labour force and meet the labour demands of tomorrow," said Labour and Workforce Development Minister Mark Parent.

The province was represented in Nova Scotia Alley, where students will have an opportunity to learn about job opportunities within government departments and the private sector.

The annual job fair highlights co-op positions and intern opportunities. The opportunities will help graduates move into the Nova Scotia workforce, as well as support retention and recruitment. Employers are able to gain access to the talent, energy and innovation of students investing in post-secondary education who want to live and work in Nova Scotia.
