Province Assists Nova Scotia Company Working With Abu Dhabi Schools

A Nova Scotia company providing education and training services in countries around the world will receive $250,000 in short-term assistance from the province.

EduNova is a co-operative of public and private educational institutions from across the province. It is in the first of a three-year, $24-million contract with the Abu Dhabi Education Council. Nova Scotians are among the teachers and administrators mentoring and advising teachers in six Abu Dhabi schools.

"Through its work abroad, EduNova promotes Nova Scotia by exporting educational and training services and promoting our province as a destination for foreign students," said Economic and Rural Development Minister Murray Scott. "This supports the Nova Scotia economy and our reputation as a knowledge economy in the global marketplace."

The province is providing a loan to assist EduNova with start-up costs for the project.

"We are pleased to have the continued support of the province as we grow our international reputation," said Ava Czapalay, president of EduNova. "This investment will ensure EduNova continues to deliver the quality expertise and training expected by its clients around the world."

EduNova, which began in 2004, is funded by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Department of Economic Development, and members of the co-operative. Its members include Nova Scotia universities; public, private and independent schools; the Nova Scotia Community College; and local companies with niche training experience.
