Film Nova Scotia Holds Advanced Screening of Soul

Film Nova Scotia and Empire Theatres are continuing their commitment to promote local film work with the renewal of their free Screening Nights partnership for 2009.

Screening Nights, held three times a year, allows local audiences to see homegrown film productions, and local filmmakers to promote their work.

The first screening this year will be Monday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Oxford Theatre. It will feature an exclusive advance screening of the VisionTV series Soul, produced by Halifax Film, a DHX Media company.

Soul is an original six-part drama series starring Canada's R&B artist Keshia Chanté as Mahalia, a gifted young gospel singer on the verge of leaving behind the safety of church and family for the fast track to pop stardom. Jessica Parker Kennedy and Halifax's own Eli Goree also star.

Soul, which filmed in Halifax in the fall of 2008, will broadcast on VisionTV Wednesdays, starting Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 9 p.m.
