Minister Announces New Seafood Festival
Ron Chisholm, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, announced plans today, Jan. 29, for a new seafood festival.
Catch, The Nova Scotia Seafood Festival, will take place from June 27 to 28 at the Cunard Centre in Halifax.
"This is an important opportunity for our local fisheries to showcase the high quality and variety of seafood products offered in the province," said Mr. Chisholm. "The experience includes learning about seafood and cooking trends while creating a promotional opportunity for seafood companies, retailers and restaurants."
The festival, presented by the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will allow visitors to taste a variety of seafood samples. It will focus on local and regional seafood products, restaurants and wineries.
Other activities include cooking demonstrations, chef competitions, and a Select Nova Scotia showcase of local farmers and food producers. There will be local entertainment and children's activities.
"This event is designed to be a showcase of all things seafood in Nova Scotia," said Scott Hosking, director of marketing services with the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. "Our goal is to bring harvesters, producers, processors, restauranteurs and chefs together for an all-inclusive culinary seafood experience."
