Canadian Securities Regulators Release Enforcement Report

An annual report released today, Jan 29, by the Canadian Securities Administrator highlights enforcement activities by the Nova Scotia Securities Commission.

The report provides information and case summaries that illustrate the enforcement work conducted by members. The report is available on the commission's website at www.gov.ns.ca/nssc, and the Canadian Securities Administrator website at www.csa-acvm.ca.

In 2008, the Nova Scotia Securities Commission concluded seven cases, one that was highlighted in the Canadian Securities Administrator annual report. It involved illegal insider trading, misconduct by registrants, illegal distributions and disclosure violations. Nova Scotia also chaired the Canadian Securities Administrator Standing Enforcement Committee in 2008.

The Nova Scotia Securities Commission was established to protect investors from unfair or fraudulent practices through regulation of the securities industry. Part of that protection is educating investors about the risks, responsibilities and rewards of investing.
