New Crown Attorney in Halifax
Tanya Carter has been appointed a Crown attorney in the Halifax office of the Public Prosecution Service.
The appointment was announced today, Jan. 5, by Martin Herschorn, director of Public Prosecutions.
"I am pleased to welcome such a capable lawyer," said Mr. Herschorn. "Ms. Carter's education and prosecutorial experience make her a valuable addition to our team."
Ms. Carter is a native of Jeffreys, N.L. She received an honors degree in legal studies from Carleton University, Ottawa in 1996 and graduated on the dean's list from the University of Alberta law school in 1999.
Ms. Carter articled with the Department of Justice in Newfoundland and Labrador. She joined the department's civil litigation unit in 2000 and, five years later, was appointed a Crown attorney.
She is a former member of the board of directors for Cabot Habitat for Humanity, St. John's. While at the University of Alberta, Ms. Carter worked with Student Legal Services, participating in disciplinary hearings at the Edmonton maximum security prison. She was also the associate student editor of the Review of Constitutional Studies at the University of Alberta.
