Blood Collection, Other Elective Services Reduced in Some Hospitals on Jan. 7

A routine software update to the Nova Scotia Hospital Information System will reduce elective services, such as blood collection and X-rays, in some hospitals on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

The Nova Scotia Hospital Information System co-ordinates patient information within and between hospitals in Nova Scotia.

The reduced elective services vary at each district health authority. Critical and emergency patient care will not be impacted. Emergency rooms, operating rooms, intensive care units and chemotherapy clinics will operate as usual.

Health care facilities in the Capital District Health Authority and the IWK Health Centre will not be affected by the software update.

People should contact local hospitals for information on which services are impacted in their area.

The software update is part of the regular maintenance and continued enhancement of the comprehensive provincewide information system.
