Drivers Urged to Stay off Roads in Antigonish and Guysborough Counties

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Drivers in Antigonish and Guysborough counties are advised to stay at home today, Jan. 1, as a high storm surge is causing severe whiteout conditions in this area.

A storm system continues to bring severe winter weather and whiteout conditions across the rest of Nova Scotia as well. Drivers are warned to keep off roads to keep themselves and others safe, as travel is extremely difficult.

"Unless people are facing an emergency situation, drivers are strongly advised to stay home, for everyone's safety," said Janice Durkee, shift supervisor, RCMP operational communications centre.

If driving is necessary, drivers are urged to use extreme caution and expect slowed traffic and possible delays as visibility is reduced by snow and wind.

More information on road conditions is available by dialing 511 for provincial highway conditions, or 1-888-432-3233 for local road information.
