Student Employment Program Application Process Goes Online
A new, online application system will make it easier for not-for-profit, municipal and government-funded organizations to apply for student wage reimbursements .
Filing a paperless application is now available for two employment programs that have been administered by the Department of Economic Development for more than ten years.
The Student Career Skills Development Program partners with not-for-profit organizations to provide career-related positions for post-secondary students and the Co-operative Employment Program assists employers who are providing required work experience for eligible post-secondary co-operative students in not-for-profit, municipal and government-funded organizations.
The Rural Broadband for Nova Scotia Initiative and Community Access Program sites help to make this innovation possible in all communities across the province.
"These programs offer meaningful opportunities for students to enhance their skills in their field of study and contribute to our economy by growing and retaining talent within the province," said Minister of Economic Development Angus MacIsaac.
"Assisting government-funded organizations, municipal governments and not-for-profit organizations in Nova Scotia is vital to the management of our economy during tough times."
"The online application form for the student employment programs helps to make the process more easily accessible for all employers and creates less paper waste," said Ryan MacKenzie, Community Access Program supervisor for western counties. "It will save our community organizations time and mailing costs, while also offering instant confirmation of their applications being received."
Validation checks are built in to ensure all necessary information is obtained, along with security features to protect privacy.
The Student Career Skills Development Program and the Co-operative Employment Program application forms are available at www.gov.ns.ca/econ/sep/ . Applications must be received for the summer programs by Jan. 30.
