Discover Nova Scotia Lobster in Alberta
Fresh, Nova Scotia lobster is being featured in select Alberta Sobeys stores in Calgary, Edmonton, Lloydminster and Fort McMurray between Dec. 6 and 14.
Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Ron Chisholm joined the Discover NS Lobster promotion in Edmonton on Wednesday, Dec. 10. He met with provincial government officials and representatives from the hotel and food services industry.
"Our lobster industry is a key contributor to the economy of our coastal communities and the province as a whole," said Mr. Chisholm. "This promotion has helped strengthen our current markets and showcased Nova Scotia lobster and the different ways to consume it."
Mr. Chisholm appeared on Edmonton's Breakfast Television show with Nova Scotia chef Alain Bosse and will visit Sobeys stores in Fort McMurray on Friday, Dec. 12 and Edmonton on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Department staff and chefs Bosse and Courtney MacDonald are showing consumers various ways to store lobster and prepare lobster dishes.
"Nova Scotia lobster is a delicacy built on long-standing traditions," said Scott Hosking, marketing director for the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. "Our lobsters are legendary around the world because our fishery has been able to harvest a consistent quality and supply of lobsters, which we are able to ship globally."
The lobster fishery contributes about $400 million in annual sales to the economy of Nova Scotia.
