Sherbrooke Village Gets Electrical Upgrade
Sherbrooke Village will be better able to serve visitors and be more environmentally friendly after a $1.2-million electrical and communications upgrade, expected to be finished in May.
The tendered project is being conducted by KVS Electrical Inc. of Antigonish.
"We are very pleased that this work is taking place, and regard it as a strong endorsement of the value of Sherbrooke Village as a provincial heritage asset," said George Brothers, village director. "We regret that this project means that there will be no Christmas lights in the village this year, but we are pleased that the outside community has stepped in to put together some Christmas activities."
There will be a community Christmas concert at the Lions Hall on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. A community tree lighting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Maple Manor seniors complex on Friday, Dec. 5, with a light exchange by Nova Scotia Power and Conserve Nova Scotia. This will be followed by a light parade to the St. Mary's Recplex. On Saturday, Dec. 6, there will be a Christmas Dance at the Lions Hall.
"We are asking the public to avoid the construction zone in the interests of public safety," said Mr. Brothers. "We expect that next year Old Fashioned Christmas activities will return in a better, greener fashion."
