2008 Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Petroleum Innovation Grant Winners Announced

Four masters students attending Halifax universities are receiving a helping hand with their research efforts through the Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Petroleum Innovation Grant.

Calvin Campbell, Shannon Ledger-Piercey, Eric Negulic and Stephen Rankin will each receive research grants, valued at $15,000 over two years. The grants are awarded to Nova Scotia students pursuing energy-related studies at the masters degree level.

"Supporting students in research is something we, as a province, value," said Minister of Energy Richard Hurlburt. "These initiatives can lead to the discovery of new and exciting developments in geology."

"Pengrowth is again proud to support this worthwhile endeavour that we hope this year will provide Shannon, Calvin, Stephen and Eric with additional opportunities to further expand their educational horizons," said Jim Kinnear, Pengrowth president and CEO.

The Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Petroleum Innovation Grant was established in 2005 as part of the Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Energy Scholarship program. Up to four grants are awarded each year to deserving Nova Scotia students. Pengrowth has contributed $2 million to the program and the province has committed to $1 million.

The program also provides up to 21 undergraduate and trades scholarships annually. To date, more than 65 scholarships and 11 innovation grants have been awarded to students to pursue education or research in energy related studies.

The deadline for the 2009 Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Petroleum Innovation Grant is Jan. 23, 2009. For an application form or additional information on the Pengrowth Nova Scotia Petroleum Innovation Grant, visit www.gov.ns.ca/energy .
