New Glasgow Crown Attorney

Bill Gorman has been appointed a Crown attorney in the New Glasgow office of the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service. The appointment was announced today, Nov. 5 by Martin Herschorn, director of public prosecutions.

"We're very pleased to have Mr. Gorman on board," said Mr. Herschorn. "His experience in criminal law is a valuable asset to the Public Prosecution Service."

A native of Antigonish, Mr. Gorman received his undergraduate degree in 1984 at St. Francis Xavier University. He graduated from the University of New Brunswick Law School in 1988.

Mr. Gorman articled at the law firm of LeBlanc MacDonald Pickup in Port Hawkesbury and was admitted to the Nova Scotia bar in 1989. He practiced with LeBlanc MacDonald Pickup until 1995. Shortly afterward, he and a partner established the law firm of Gorman MacLaughlin. Since 2005, Mr. Gorman has practiced on his own.

Throughout his legal practice in the private sector, Mr. Gorman focused on criminal law and civil litigation. He was appointed a per diem Crown attorney in 2003 and has prosecuted cases in Pictou, Antigonish, Inverness, Colchester, Cape Breton and Halifax counties.
