Government Employees Begin Campaign for United Way
Provincial government employees will launch their annual fundraising campaign in support of the United Way today, Oct. 7.
Premier Rodney MacDonald will join Paul LaFleche, deputy minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and Aquaculture, and chair of the provincial campaign, and Catherine Woodman, president and CEO of the United Way of Halifax, in marking the campaign's start at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax.
"The generosity of Nova Scotia government employees shows how much they care about the people and communities across the province," said Premier MacDonald. "Their actions throughout the United Way campaign demonstrate how committed they are to making the communities in which they live and work, stronger and healthier."
The United Way campaign is managed by volunteers in each department and agency. The departments of Agriculture and Fisheries and Aquaculture are leading this year's campaign.
"Our provincial goal this year is to raise $450,000 for the United Way," said Mr. LaFleche. "I believe that Nova Scotia government employees will rise to the challenge and we will achieve our goal."
The kick-off event includes a lunch showcasing a selection of local Nova Scotia food products, and musical entertainment by government employees, including Premier MacDonald.
The money raised will support United Way activities across the province.
The provincial government campaign runs until Nov. 30.
