Event Celebrates Arts, Culture in Nova Scotia
From the Atlantic Fringe Festival to the Celtic Colours International Festival, there are a number of high-calibre cultural events across the province during the fall.
Premier Rodney MacDonald, Tourism Culture and Heritage Minister Bill Dooks, the Nova Scotia Arts and Culture Partnership and members of the arts and culture sector today, Sept. 3, kicked off the first Fall for the Arts, an event celebrating arts and culture in Nova Scotia.
"Supporting arts and culture creates a healthier, more vibrant Nova Scotia," said Premier Rodney MacDonald. "Today's event is a way to celebrate the arts and culture community across Nova Scotia and to bring awareness to the many events happening across the province throughout the year."
Fall for the Arts is an excellent opportunity to promote and showcase the many arts and cultural events happening this fall. The celebration will feature performances by the blue Engine String Quartet, Young Neptune Company and Drum!.
"Fall is an important season for arts and culture in Nova Scotia," said Mr. Dooks. "Today's event is about raising awareness of the many spectacular events happening across Nova Scotia and encouraging everyone to get out and enjoy them."
The event is a partnership between many organizations including collaborative efforts of the Nova Scotia Arts and Culture Partnership Council and the Tourism Partnership Council.
"We are very pleased to be working with our partners in the Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage and the Tourism Partnership Council to promote arts and culture across Nova Scotia," said Paul Gallant, chair of the Nova Scotia Art and Culture Partnership Council. "Today we focused on the fall season, however, our goal is to expand our reach and put a plan in place to promote activities across the province all through the year and we will work with our partners to bring that about."
The Nova Scotia Arts and Culture Partnership Council was established in 2003. In consultation with the arts and culture sector, it provides advice and recommendations to guide the Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage's investment in Nova Scotia artists, cultural industries and cultural activities.
