Lifeguard Services Ending for the Season

NOTE: A list of beaches supervised by the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service follows this release.

Sunday, Aug. 24, will be the last day of supervision for 19 of the 21 beaches supervised by the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service.

Lawrencetown and Aylesford Lake beaches will remain supervised daily until Labour Day, Monday, Sept. 1. Lawrencetown will also be supervised on the weekends of Sept. 6-7 and Sept. 13-14.

Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service director Paul D'Eon, said there has not been a drowning on a supervised beach during supervised hours in the past 33 years, and this summer has been no exception.

"I'm proud to report that we have kept our record intact, to date, for another year," Mr. D'Eon said. "Our lifeguards have performed many pro-active interventions, and we had a very low rate of major incidents."

Lifeguards have been guarding the beaches from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily since the end of June. The Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service is a joint project of the Department of Health Promotion and Protection and the Nova Scotia branch of the Lifesaving Society.
