Incredible Picnic to be Held Provincewide

Nova Scotians are invited to take part in the Incredible Picnic on Sunday, Aug. 24 to be held at 11 locations across the province.

"Nova Scotia farmers are an important part of our rural communities," said Brooke Taylor, Minister of Agriculture. "The Incredible Picnic is one way for friends and family to get together on a summer afternoon to eat fresh, food grown and produced locally."

The picnic will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Garrison Grounds, Halifax; Victoria Park, Truro; farmers' market and wharf, Annapolis Royal; Prescott House Museum, Port Williams, Kings Co.; Community Fields, Tatamagouche; Cocoa Pesto Bistro and Victoria Park, Windsor; Rare Bird Pub courtyard, Guysborough; Petersfield Park, Sydney; White Point Beach Resort, Liverpool; Hubbards Farmers' Market; and Chisholm Park, Antigonish.

"Each picnic has a great mix of producers and chefs selling everything you need to put together a fabulous picnic lunch, or you can bring your own basket full of local foods," said Jennifer Reynolds, planning and development officer for Select Nova Scotia with the Department of Agriculture.

"Buying local and eating fresh products is important to an increasing number of Nova Scotians, so I encourage everyone to come out to one of the picnic locations."

Inspiration for the event came from the 1,000-kilometre cross-country picnic held on Bastille Day in France where participants celebrate with local food.
