Francophone Schools Benefit from Transfer of Resource, Training Function

Nova Scotia's francophone school board will now have direct control over development of learning resources and training to support its own curriculum.

The Conseil scolaire acadien provincial will take responsibility for the Centre provincial de ressources pédagogiques of the Université Sainte-Anne, effective Aug. 1.

"It makes sense that an organization that develops its own curriculum will also be the organization that manages and plans research and training activities directly in support of that curriculum," said Education Minister Karen Casey. "There is no doubt that with better adapted resources and better prepared teachers, students will benefit."

The change comes as part of the minister's response to recommendations proposed after a study of the Centre provincial de ressources pédagogiques mandate and management model last December.

The transfer will begin with the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial assuming management responsibilities for the Centre provincial de ressources pédagogiques, and the appointment of an interim director.

The employees working at the Centre provincial de ressources pédagogiques will remain under secondment to the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial until April 2009, at which time the board will hire personnel according to recommendations set out in a strategic plan being developed over the next several months.
