Province to Honour Emergency Personnel, Organizations Who Helped With Fires
The province is giving Nova Scotians a chance to thank firefighters, volunteers, community organizations and businesses, police, paramedics, ground search and rescue workers and government staff who worked tirelessly during the weekend's forest fires.
On July 3, between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., Premier Rodney MacDonald, and members of the legislature, will host an appreciation event at Cole Harbour Place in Dartmouth.
"The forest fires brought out the best in Nova Scotians -- those who risked their lives to save life and property, the many Nova Scotians who opened their hearts and homes and the families who were patient and understanding as they agonized about their homes and neighbours," Premier MacDonald said.
"Many people have asked how they can express their gratitude. This event will give them that opportunity."
Fire evacuees along the Eastern Shore and in the Tantallon area are invited to drop by for a barbecue and to meet some of those responsible for heroic efforts to keep the fires at bay.
