Province Supports Growth, Operational Greening for a Rural Company
Nu-Air Ventilation Systems Inc. in Windsor, a leader in energy efficiency and technology, will have greener operations and create new jobs with an investment from the province.
Today, June 13, on behalf of the Minister of Economic Development, Angus MacIsaac, MLA Chuck Porter announced a $1.5-million investment and a forgivable incentive of $500,000 at the facility in Windsor.
The investment is through the Industrial Expansion Fund. The earned investment incentive, over a five-year period, is based on the company creating up to 78 new jobs, which will result in new payroll of more than $2 million and tax revenue to the province of $140,000 each year.
"The government will continue to support innovative companies that contribute to making this province one of the cleanest and most sustainable environments in the world," said Mr. Porter. "This investment will help a rural company secure its leadership in the industry, remain competitive, reduce costs and create quality jobs for Nova Scotia."
Over its 16 years in operation, Nu-Air Ventilation, a leading manufacturer of residential and light commercial heat-recovery ventilators, has grown from a small made-to-order shop into a manufacturing facility. The company's innovative heating, hot water, ventilation, and air-conditioning integrated system, Enerboss, was used for a green housing project in Alberta. Its partnership with the government of Canada, through the Climate Change Action Fund, provided the framework to develop a line of products that meet efficient design and technology requirements.
"This investment from the province will help us to acquire the automated equipment necessary to meet the growing market demands for Enerboss," said Nu-Air president Earl Caldwell. "We will also grow our operations and provide an enhanced level of sustainable employment within our local community."
The Industrial Expansion Fund (IEF) is one method the government of Nova Scotia uses to support economic development in the province. It is key to helping industries involved in innovation and technology and contributing to a prosperous and sustainable business climate for Nova Scotia. The IEF has considerable flexibility in the amount and type of funding it can provide.
