Medal of Bravery Nominations Sought

Nominations are being sought for Nova Scotia's new Medal of Bravery.

The medal will be awarded to individuals who have risked their well-being to help protect the life or property of others.

"This award will recognize individuals who have found themselves in extraordinary situations and who have responded with great courage," said Premier Rodney MacDonald. "It will honour individuals who, in the face of danger, made the choice to act."

Any Nova Scotian can be nominated for the award. Consideration will not be limited to individuals in law enforcement or public safety sectors.

Nomination forms are available at Access Nova Scotia Centres throughout the province. Forms are also available at Province House, the offices of members of the legislative assembly and online at the Medal of Bravery website at www.gov.ns.ca/bravery .
The deadline for nominations is June 30.

The committee also includes the deputy minister of Justice, the provincial fire marshall, the president of the Nova Scotia Chiefs of Police Association, the chief executive officer of the Emergency Management Office, the commander of Maritime Forces Atlantic, former Member of the Legislative Assembly Wayne Adams, and Mr. John Cody.
