4-H Members Compete in Provincial Event

Nova Scotia's 4-H members will compete in activities at the annual provincial 4-H Weekend, Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10, at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Bible Hill.

Two-hundred-fifty youth will take part in public speaking events, demonstrations, woodsman contests and the Nova Scotia Horse Classic during the two-day event.

"Our 4-H program continues to teach young people valuable communication skills that they can use as leaders in their communities," says Brooke Taylor, Minister of Agriculture. "The capability for 4-H members to speak with ease at such a young age is a testament to the skills they develop through this program."

The weekend's highlight is 4-H Night in Nova Scotia on May 10. 4-H members who have won provincial honours will present winning speeches and demonstrations. Awards are presented to the winners of all competitions, to members and leaders who have won Canadian 4-H Council National Travel Awards, and to the Provincial 4-H host and hostess, who represent Nova Scotia's 4-H program. People who have made significant contributions to the 4-H program will also be recognized with the Friends of 4-H Award.

The weekend activities are open to the public. Information is available online at www.gov.ns.ca/agri/4h .
