Licensed Day Care Inspection Results Available Online
An online resource to help parents make informed decisions when choosing licensed child care was launched by the province today, April 23.
The website allows parents to search for licensed child care by facility name or location and lists the licensing status of child-care centres across the province. The resource, available at www.gov.ns.ca/coms/families/childcare/directories/, allows parents to easily check if a day care is following the Day Care Act and regulations.
"Parents want to know when they enrol their child in a licensed child-care facility that they have made the right decision," said Judy Streatch, Minister of Community Services. "This website will help Nova Scotia parents make informed decisions and allow them to monitor a centre's inspection results."
Brenda MacPhee, a mother with two children in licensed child care, is pleased with the new website.
"It's reassuring to have this level of transparency, not to mention added accessability," said Ms. MacPhee. "While inspection reports are posted on-site, I'm often somewhat rushed when dropping-off or picking up my children.
"This makes it so much easier. I can check when it's convenient for me."
The launch of the website is part of government's goal to further enhance the early learning and child-care system for Nova Scotia families.
