MacLean Begins as President April 21
Colin MacLean, formerly vice-president at NSCC, will become president and CEO of the Waterfront Development Corporation Limited (WDCL) on April 21.
"The corporation was looking for a candidate with leadership skills, vision and someone who could effect change," said Angus MacIsaac, Economic Development Minister. "Colin MacLean brings these skills and more as the new president and CEO of Waterfront Development Corporation."
Mr. MacLean's most recent position was with NSCC as vice-president of People and Planning, where he was responsible for strategic planning, legal affairs, human resources, student services, applied research and international education. He was part of a team that led the transition of the college from government to an independent board-governed institution. The results of this work included the $123-million expansion of NSCC across the province and, in particular, the $60-million Dartmouth Waterfront Campus.
"The board of WDCL is excited that Mr. MacLean is taking this important leadership role in the province," said Eric Thomson, chair of the WDCL board of directors. "His vision and his ability to develop partnerships will help us to build on the accomplishments of the past 30 years."
In addition to his position as vice-president of NSCC, Mr. MacLean has contributed to the work of NovaKnowledge, the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, Greater Halifax Partnership, and Enterprise Saint John on issues of strategy and economic development.
"The Waterfront Development Corp. is helping to create vibrant waterfronts in Halifax and Lunenburg," said Colin MacLean. "I am looking forward to working closely with our private- and public-sector partners to capitalize on the many economic and cultural possibilities before us."
The Waterfront Development Corporation Ltd. is a provincial Crown corporation which has been planning, co-ordinating, promoting and developing properties, events and activities on the waterfront of Halifax for more than 30 years, and in Lunenburg since 2005.
