Province Presents Climate Change Show at Discovery Centre
Young Nova Scotians and their families can learn about climate change and take action to help protect our environment by visiting a new exhibit at the Discovery Centre in Halifax.
Funny man and television personality Rick Mercer joined Richard Hurlburt, Minister responsible for Conserve Nova Scotia, and Dov Bercovici, CEO, Discovery Centre to officially open the Climate Change Show, today, Feb 12. Conserve Nova Scotia is the presenting sponsor of the Climate Change Show which is open until April 30.
"We are so proud to be a part of this show. We are educating our children and their families so they can make energy efficiency part of their everyday lives," said Mr. Hurlburt. "Every Nova Scotian can make a difference and help reach our goal to have one of the cleanest and most sustainable environments in the world by 2020."
The Climate Change Show is a one-of-a-kind, multi-media exhibit that educates visitors about climate change. The goal of the interactive exhibit is to increase public understanding of climate change and encourage visitors to take positive action.
"We are thrilled to play host to such a valuable exhibit," said Mr. Bercovici. "The Climate Change Show allows children and adults to have fun while learning about the causes, effects and solutions of climate change."
The show, hosted by an animated sheep in rubber boots, outlines the serious and contemporary challenges of climate change in a fun and humourous way. The fast-talking sheep, voiced by Mr. Mercer, discusses the past, present and future of the world's climate and how it affects life on earth. Filled with magnificent environmental effects, the show takes place inside an object theatre and recreates weather and climate change right before your eyes.
"The climate change show is a perfect fit with the province's Environmental Goals and Sustainable Prosperity Act," said Mr. Hurlburt. "Every bit counts towards our goal of reducing greenhouse-gas emissions by 2020 to at least 10 per cent below 1990 levels."
