Chronic Pain Decision Made

The Nova Scotia Court of Appeal has ruled that workers who were injured and developed chronic pain on the job before April 17, 1985, should be assessed for benefits.

"We will respect the decision made by the court of appeal," said Environment and Labour Minister Mark Parent. "We appreciate that now there is clarity on this issue and the Workers' Compensation Board will put a process in place to assess these individuals."

"We will now start working to respond to this decision and complete assessments of those injured workers who developed chronic pain before April 17, 1985," said Nancy MacCready-Williams, chief executive officer of the Workers Compensation Board. "We anticipate the work will be complete by June 2008."
