Bulletin: Giving Young People A Voice

Young people will have a continuing voice in implementing and providing feedback to Our Kids Are Worth It.

A provincial Youth Advisory Network will be created. Government will work with interested youth groups (such as the Youth Advisory Committee, Phoenix Youth Programs, Provincial Student Education Council, Youth in Care newsletter group, Conseil jeunesse provincial de la Nouvelle-Écosse, and a new group being created by the Council on African Canadian Education) to develop this network. Government will also consult the Youth Ombudsman's Office, which has experience reaching out to youth in care, and youth in custody.

The network will tap into the perspectives and talents of all youth, from all backgrounds and experiences. Along with relying on the network for policy advice and feedback on the strategy, government will also seek ideas on how to help more youth gain leadership and life skills that support their development into responsible, contributing citizens.

A youth networking conference will be organized to begin this process.

The investment in this provincewide program will be $35,000.

More information on the program is available on pages 51 and 52 of the Child and Youth Strategy: Our Kids Are Worth It. The complete document is available online at www.gov.ns.ca .
