Gaelic Language Workshop

Highland Village Museum will hold a Gaelic language workshop or Cainnt's Cànan on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Instructor will be Jim Watson, manager of interpretation at Highland Village.

Sessions will be aimed at introducing reading to Gaelic students and should be of interest to students enrolled in Total Immersion Plus language courses studying Gaelic reading skills. Teaching will focus on basic sounds for letters in the Gaelic alphabet. Lessons in reading will be accompanied by expressions and transcriptions of Gaelic folklore.

The day will be divided into two sessions. Morning classes will focus on vernacular phrasing and vocabulary. The afternoon will begin with a session on Gaelic songs and end with video-taped recordings of native Gaelic speakers from Cape Breton.

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Highland Village reception centre. Cainnt's Cànan is an excellent opportunity for Gaelic students to advance their speaking and reading skills in a relaxed and historical setting.

Admission is $10.00 for adults. Students and children can attend for free. Highland Village Museum is located on Highway 223 at Hector's Point, Iona. Ur beatha an Clachan.
