Agricultural Hall of Fame Inducts Nova Scotian

The late Allister Marshall was inducted into the Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame in a ceremony today, Oct. 25, at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Bible Hill.

"Mr. Marshall contributed significantly to the agriculture industry through his years working with the province of Nova Scotia and in the field of tree fruit production," said Brooke Taylor, Minister of Agriculture. "He also made significant contributions to organizations in his community."

Born in Trenton, Pictou Co., Mr. Marshall graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and Macdonald College in Montreal. He also attended the University of Guelph to study for his master's degree in Farm Management.

Mr. Marshall worked for 26 years with the Department of Agriculture for the Nova Scotia Farm Loan Board. He also served on the board of Scotian Gold Cooperatives Ltd. and the Nova Scotia Fruit Growers Association.

"Mr. Marshall was instrumental in helping with the development of the agricultural industry in western Nova Scotia and knew most of the farmers in the region because of his position with the loan board," said Mr. Taylor.

Mr. Marshall was active in a variety of organizations in his community. He and wife Susan raised two children.

The Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame honours members of the agricultural community for outstanding contributions to industry, community and farm organizations. The 2007 inductees from the other Atlantic provinces are William John Hayden, Prince Edward Island; the late Rick Woodford, Newfoundland and Labrador; and Albert Stuart Neill, New Brunswick.
