New School in Oxford Gets Official Start
About 425 students in Oxford are a step closer to a new school.
Education Minister Karen Casey helped students, teachers, school board and government officials turn the first sod today, Oct. 15, on a new $11.3-million school.
"This is just one example of how government is making good on its commitment to build and renovate schools, providing students with a safe and healthy learning environment," said Ms. Casey. "The new school will meet the needs of Oxford's students and the community for many years to come."
The Primary to Grade 12 facility, expected to be ready in the fall of 2009, will replace Oxford Regional High School and Oxford Regional Elementary School.
A tender for the school's design contract will soon be awarded. Construction is expected to begin next summer and the Department of Transportation and Public Works will oversee the design and construction of the school.
The school is being built through the province's eight-year, $400-million capital-construction program.
