Fines Doubled in School Zones
Transportation and Public Works (to Oct. 2007)
Now that students are back to school, drivers are reminded to slow down and travel cautiously through school zones.
Drivers should also remember that fines for speeding are doubled in school zones in Nova Scotia. Those who speed in school zones face a minimum fine of $330. The law has been in effect since Jan. 1.
"For the safety of our children, drivers need to use extra caution when travelling in school zones," said Transportation and Public Works Minister Angus MacIsaac. "Double fines are in place to remind drivers that road safety is taken seriously, especially when it involves our most vulnerable road users."
The speed limit in school zones is 50 kilometres per hour.
