Road to Celtic Colours Music Camp
Sherbrooke Village will set the stage for Cape Breton's Celtic Colours Festival with a celebration of music and sharing at the Road to Celtic Colours music camp and ceilidh
For the third year in a row, Sherbrooke Village will host a pre-event concert called the Road to Celtic Colours Ceilidh. Past performers have included Jerry Holland, Dave Gunning and Troy MacGillivray. This year's Road to Celtic Colours will involve a much longer musical interlude than in previous years.
Sherbrooke Village will partner with the award-winning festival to offer the first annual Road to Celtic Colours Music Camp. The four-day camp will run from Monday, Oct. 1, to Thursday, Oct. 4.
"We've been really pleased with our partnership with Sherbrooke Village over the past three years," said Max MacDonald, co-producer of the internationally renowned festival.
"We are very protective of the Celtic Colours brand and Sherbrooke Village has shown their respect for the integrity and the spirit of our event. We feel this enhanced partnership is good for not only the two organizations, but for Nova Scotia tourism in general."
Lynn Hayne, manager of development and promotions for Sherbrooke Village said the camp drew interest even before it was promoted. "We've already booked three members of a family from B.C. who are coming to Nova Scotia, partly because of celtic colours and partly because of the camp. We had our first local registrant sign up the day we put our forms online," said Mrs. Hayne.
Troy MacGillivray, Stan Chapman and Professor Catriona Parsons from the St. Francis Xavier celtic studies program will provide fiddle, piano, guitar and Gaelic singing instruction.
In addition to the teaching schedule and a wide range of workshops, informal musical gatherings will be held each evening in the historic courthouse, featuring performances by the students and staff.
The event will culminate on Thursday evening with the annual Road to Celtic Colours Ceilidh which will feature music and talent of the instructors, along with various special guests.
