Province to Refurbish Three HRM Timber Bridges
Drivers who use three timber bridges in the Halifax Regional Municipality will soon be travelling on upgraded structures thanks to a tender announced by the province.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works has called for tenders to refurbish the bridge railings on three timber bridges as follows:
- Benery Bridge located on Oldham Road near Enfield;
- Long Cove Bridge located on Long Cove Road west of Sambro;
- Pennant River Bridge located in Pennant Harbour west of Sambro.
"It's important that we keep our bridges in the best possible condition," said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "The department is working hard to upgrade Nova Scotia's highway system."
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
