Nova Scotia Takes Steps Toward Sustainable Future
The province's premier community development conference will be held next month and it boasts a star-studded program to help share ideas to create a sustainable future for all Nova Scotians.
Three hundred community leaders and representatives of business and government organizations are expected to register at Sydney conference that includes speakers, workshops and awards that focus on community development. The goal of the event is to explore successful community projects and practices and provide opportunities to learn from each other.
From Sept. 26-28, delegates from across the province will gather at the Celebrating Communities Conference and Awards. Justin Trudeau is headlining the awards dinner with a keynote address on the empowerment of youth. The awards honour the achievements of Nova Scotia's community organizations and volunteers.
Delegates will be welcomed by some of Cape Breton's best-known personalities. Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Mayann Francis and CBC's Fifth Estate host Linden MacIntyre return to the island of their youth to share diverse and dynamic perspectives on community development. Entertainers Bette MacDonald, Maynard Morrison, Dave MacIssac, Matt Minglewood, the Sons of Membertou and the Men of the Deeps will entertain delegates in true Cape Breton style.
Michael Stolte and the Irondale Ensemble Project are among the other presenters. Mr. Stolte, president of the Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation, will share his insights on community economic development. Irondale has been working with Nova Scotia youth who will perform a perspective on community development that they developed for the conference.
