Nova Scotia Pleased with Iceland Blue Sky Agreement

Two Nova Scotia cabinet ministers said the Blue Sky Agreement with the Republic of Iceland, announced on Wednesday, July 18, by Transport Canada Minister Lawrence Cannon, is good news for Nova Scotia.

"Nova Scotia is well positioned to take advantage of this latest agreement," said Transportation and Public Works Minister Angus MacIsaac. "Making ourselves a gateway for Canada to and from the world is one of our highest priorities and any agreement that makes that easier is a great step in the right direction."

"We are pleased by this development and the opportunity to grow our tourism markets in Iceland and further abroad," said Tourism, Culture and Heritage Minister Len Goucher. "It also creates a positive business climate for companies like Icelandair that want to expand service to Canada."

The agreement allows airlines from both countries to operate passenger and cargo service in the other country, giving customers greater choice and flexibility.

Mr. MacIsaac said he commends Mr. Cannon for his efforts and he is looking forward to Canada making a similar agreement with the European Union.
