A Summer of Treasure at Sherbrooke Village
Children and families visiting Sherebrooke Village can uncover clues and search for hidden treasure this summer.
In celebration of the 2007 Tall Ships Nova Scotia Festival and Sherbrooke's connection to privateers, the Sherbrooke Village Treasure Hunt lets visitors search for the museum's hidden history treasures as they tour the site.
From the blacksmith shop to the jail, the pottery shop to Greenwood Cottage, the Sherbrooke Village Treasure Hunt adds a new element of interaction to the museum tour. The hunt begins at the information centre, where families will get a rhyming clue sheet that contains history questions about certain buildings as well as other fun clues. Those who complete the quest will be rewarded with a bounty from the treasure chest.
Lynn Hayne, manager of development and promotions, said the suggestion for a daily treasure hunt came from visitors who had taken part in family scavenger hunts that were held on selected Sundays over the past several years.
"Families are asking for activities that all ages can enjoy and this hunt allows the whole family to have a historic adventure," said Ms. Hayne. "We're always looking for ways to get people really involved in village life and this is an opportunity to do just that. At Sherbrooke Village, our past is your adventure."
Participants can register at the information centre at the beginning of their tour. The Sherbrooke Village Treasure Hunt will be held every day in July and August and on weekends in the fall until the close of the season Oct. 15.
