Atlantic 4-H Members Improve Skills

Sixty-five 4-H members from across Atlantic Canada will sharpen their technical livestock skills during the annual Eastern Breeders Incorporated 4-H Showcase from Wednesday, June 27, to Friday, June 29.

"This event gives our 4-H youth specific and invaluable training with beef and dairy cattle," said Brooke Taylor, Minister of Agriculture. "These opportunities help prepare our young dairy and beef producers to be leaders in the agricultural industry."

Members will learn about show preparation for calves, marketing, safe livestock handling, cattle and forage judging, and the latest techniques in showmanship, clipping, display design, and herd management.

"Nova Scotia's 4-H program has a positive learning partnership with Eastern Breeders Incorporated and is pleased to provide specialized livestock training opportunities," said Arthur Pick, acting manager, 4-H and Rural Organizations.

After two days of training, 4-H members compete for top honours with their calves at the beef and dairy show. Awards will be presented to the winners in each class. The show is being held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 29, at the Provincial Exhibition Grounds in Bible Hill. The public is invited to attend.

The Eastern Breeders Incorporated Showcase is an education seminar and a competition for Atlantic 4-H members who are 14 years of age and have a minimum of two years experience with the 4-H dairy and beef projects.
