Advisory Committee to Review Cancer Drug
The advisory committee that provides government with advice on what cancer drugs should qualify for public funding will conduct a final review of the drug Avastin within two weeks.
The committee, which met today, June 13, is made up of 25 people representing the many perspectives needed to review the evidence, economics and ethics of new cancer therapies.
Representatives include cancer specialists, a cancer survivor, other health-care providers and Department of Health representatives.
"I was informed that they want to have one final look at the drug and I respect their decision," said Health Minister Chris d'Entremont.
The committee wants to review the drug to address any perceived concerns about the earlier process.
The review will examine the most-up-to-date research on Avastin.
