Strategic Infrastructure Fund Available

Nova Scotia's agriculture industry can access $750,000 this year to help strengthen infrastructure and partnerships.

Applications are now being accepted under the Strategic Investment Fund.

"This fund gives producers, processors and groups the opportunity to access funding for projects that help industry accelerate its economic potential and development." said Brooke Taylor, Minister of Agriculture.

Over the next four years the Strategic Infrastructure Fund will provide a total of $6 million for projects showing a strong business plan and benefits for the industry as a whole.

This is the third and final component of a $9.7 million package for the agriculture industry announced in December 2006. The first component, the Margin Enhancement Fund, has been delivered. The second component, called the Transitional Assistance Fund, is still available to farmers.

"The Department of Agriculture continues to help producers and the agriculture industry," said Mr. Taylor. "This particular fund promotes creativity and partnerships in our industry. We support winning opportunities for industry, and our communities."

The Strategic Investment Fund will be delivered through the Agri-Food Industry Development Fund. More information can be found at http://www.gov.ns.ca/agri/programs , or by calling toll free 1-866-844-4276.
