Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps Announces Community Partners

Thirty eight Nova Scotian students will learn the importance of environmental stewardship and gain valuable work skills as part of the Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps program.

From June 25 to Aug. 24, students will work with 15 community partners on projects related to waste management, pollution prevention, climate change, energy conservation and environmental education.

The Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps will work with the following community partners on environmentally friendly projects:

• Atlantic Coastal Action Program - Cape Breton
• Town of Canso
• Department of Environment and Labour, Port Hawkesbury and Halifax office
• Guysborough Environmental Waste Management Facility
• North Colchester River Restoration Committee
• Clean Nova Scotia
• Town of New Glasgow along with Conserve Nova Scotia
• Bluenose Costal Action Foundation
• Ecology Action Center
• Sackville Rivers Association
• Department of Natural Resources
• Tusket River Environmental Protection Association
• Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute

This is the 18th consecutive summer for the project. Youth will earn $8.50 an hour and will be trained in first aid, occupational health and safety and Workplace Materials Information System(WHMIS).
