Highland Village Museum Opens for the Season

Highland Village Museum/An Clachan Gàidhealach, opens Friday, June 1. The village covers 43 acres in Iona, Victoria Co., overlooking the Bras d'Or Lakes and features 11 period buildings.

On-site animators and rare farm animals, including Soay sheep and highland cattle, provide an interactive learning of Gaelic heritage and culture in Nova Scotia. Demonstrations and traditional craft making such as the arts of weaving, quilting and rug hooking are offered, and an opportunity to hear Gaelic singing and take part in traditional céilidhs.

The summer will include such events as daily animation demonstrations, cod suppers, candlelight tours, Làithean Sona-Happy Days children's program, workshops in different aspects of Gaelic culture and the 46th annual Highland Village Day Concert.

Highland Village is open daily 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., from June 1 to Oct. 14. Admission is $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors and $4.00 for youth, with a family rate of $22.00.
