Premier to Host Symposium on the Atlantic Gateway
Discovering how the province can work together with interested parties to develop the full potential of gateway opportunities will be the focus of a one-day symposium hosted by Premier Rodney MacDonald.
The symposium will take place at the Cunard Centre in Halifax, Wednesday, May 30. It will feature a series of panel discussions and a keynote address by Michael Gallis, a leading expert on creating globally competitive regions.
The premier said the symposium is part of the province's efforts to strengthen Nova Scotia's position in the competitive world of international commerce.
"This symposium is about thinking big," said the premier. "We need to think about what securing our province's position as North America's Atlantic Gateway will mean for Canada's transportation system, for businesses and the Canadian economy, and for our effort to build Nova Scotia using opportunities and global connections."
The premier said achieving gateway status will set off a chain reaction where the province will attract more private-sector investment, build a critical mass of transportation and logistics expertise, and elevate Nova Scotia on the global trading map.
Sponsors of the Premier's Symposium on the Atlantic Gateway include CN, the Halifax Gateway Council, Highway 104 Western Alignment Corporation, McInnes Cooper, Nova Scotia "Come to life", the Port of Halifax and the Strait of Canso Superport Corporation Limited.
