Access Awareness Week May 27-June 2

Access Awareness Week will celebrate accessibility accomplishments by, and for, Nova Scotians with disabilities.

This year's theme, Accessibility for All: Build Pathways to Inclusive Communities, will accentuate a week of activities from May 27 to June 2 and generate awareness about ways to remove barriers for people with disabilities. The theme will be recognized by proclamation at Province House on Monday, May 28, signed by Community Services Minister Judy Streatch.

"To create accessibility means creating opportunities," said Ms. Streatch today, May 25. "And it's up to all of us to take the opportunity all year long to promote inclusion and equal participation of all Nova Scotians with disabilities."

Additional presentations during the proclamation ceremony will focus on the importance of recreation for persons with disabilities.

"I am pleased the benefit gained from sports and recreation will be highlighted during the ceremony and through other activities during the week, like junior wheelchair basketball," said Anne MacRae, executive director of the Disabled Persons Commission.

Access Awareness Week is organized by the Partnership for Access Awareness Nova Scotia, with help from the Disabled Persons Commission.
