Nova Scotia Sportfishing Weekend June 2, 3
Nova Scotians are invited to grab a fishing rod and enjoy a little sportfishing during the 12th annual sportfishing weekend, June 2 and 3. This year, for the first time, non–resident anglers may also take advantage of the sportfishing weekend.
"Fishing is a great family experience that we hope people will decide to try. People can try it out without having to purchase a fishing licence," said Ron Chisholm, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture. "Fishing is an activity that can be enjoyed at any age, and there are so many beautiful areas of the province to sportfish."
The sportfishing weekend is held each June to promote and educate people about sportfishing. While a general fishing licence is not required, all bag limits and regulations will still apply. Licence requirements and regulations also still apply for fishing Atlantic salmon.
Sportfishing in Nova Scotia is worth about $92 million a year to the province's economy. Close to 100,000 Nova Scotians sportfish each year and thousands visit the province to fish.
