Windsor Area Residents Can Light For Less

Visitors to the Windsor--West Hants Community Lifestyle Show next weekend will get help to light for less.

Conserve Nova Scotia is offering a compact fluorescent light to anyone that visits the show as a way to promote energy efficiency.

"This is one example of how we're helping educate Nova Scotians about the benefits of energy efficiency," said Bill Dooks, Minister responsible for Conserve Nova Scotia. "We've had more than 16 major energy-efficiency lighting campaigns in the past two years. Changing behaviour takes time, and events like this are helping us achieve that."

Energy-efficient compact fluorescent lightbulbs use up to 75 per cent less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs, last up to 10 times longer, and can save about $40 in electricity costs over the lifetime of the bulb. Each compact fluorescent bulb can also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about a quarter tonne.

Staff from Conserve Nova Scotia will educate visitors to the booth about energy-efficient lighting and other energy-efficiency programs offered by government. The event is in addition to five other home shows where Conserve Nova Scotia has distributed compact fluorescent lights in the past year. The province has distributed more than 200,000 compact fluorescent lights in the past 18 months through energy kits, community group programs and promotions.
